Brief to Mc Donnell Design.
The premises in Enniskillen Co. Fermanagh, had lain dormant for over two years and was to re-open as The Taphouse Gastro Pub. The brief was ‘to provide a lively family orientated Gastro Pub serving damm good food and craft beers in a contemporary interior’.
Solution
A contemporary design take on a traditional bar was created in the right hand bar where customers could enjoy a range of craft beers and ales, good food and live sport of screens that would be family friendly. A palette of brown wallcovering and timber paneling, copper tables and light fittings, aged timber parquet flooring along with aged tan leather fixed seating were added to complement the retained stone walls. The bar front was enhanced with parquet timber and copper kicker rail. A very dark blue/black colour was applied to the back bar with craft beer, spirit and wine bottle displays and suspended wine glass racks.
While in the dining room, a subtle colour scheme of distressed off white and blue T&G sheeting coupled with off white dining furniture, with pale blue and tan leather upholstered fixed seating gives a cool lakeside boathouse interior feel. Enhanced with a distressed panelled ceiling, nautical lighting, timber floors and a distressed feel to bar. Resulting in a calming ambience which can cater for small and large parties who can enjoy the best a Gastro pub can offer with the added benefit of access to an outdoor enclosed terrace which is a natural suntrap, ideal for that lazy weekend lunch.
Success
Customers response has been above all expectations and the venue has won Hospitality Ulster Pub of the Year award for it’s food and beverage offer. The Taphouse is ranked at number 2 for restaurants on Tripadvisor for Co. Fermanagh.
