The Tower Hotel,
L'Derry.

Area 1,870 sq. ft. Seats 35.

Brief:

To breathe some life into a very dull and under lit hotel reception and increase seating for residents and visitors alike.

Solution:

Relocate the entrance to the toilet lobby to allow an additional 15 seats opposite the reception desk. The use of crushed velvet plum and lime green upholstery on sofas and double pouffes to provide contrast to the crimson, gold and purple wall coverings used to provide a warm backdrop.

A lighting scheme to tackle the dull and dimly lit interior was paramount to the success of the project. A bespoke feature light fitting in the central recessed ceiling along with subtle concealed lavender coloured halo lighting created a focal point. Bespoke cream pendant shade lights over the reception desk and coffee tables along the glazed front of the reception area helped define areas.
Narrow beam reduced glare spotlights to add punch and the addition of glass diffusers to existing recessed fluorescent lights all combined to provide a layered approach of interest and definition to the lighting. And finally a scene setter was installed to control the mood day and night in such an important space within the hotel.

Success:

These elements combine to make for a warm and inviting reception with many subtle layers of colour and light to an area that has to accommodate many different tasks.
