MALDRON HOTEL, DERRY CITY.

Brief to Mc Donnell Design, Interior Designers.

Maldron Hotel (formally Tower Hotel), Derry City wished to refurbish and breathe some life into a very dull and under lit hotel reception and increase seating for residents and visitors alike. Also they wished to revamp the dimly lit function room in a style which would comfortably enable it to hold weddings, functions, conferences & shows.

Solution

In reception relocate the entrance to the toilet lobby to allow an additional 15 seats in the hotel reception. The use of crushed velvet plum and lime green upholstery to provide contrast to the crimson, gold and purple wall coverings used to provide a warm backdrop. A lighting scheme to tackle the dull and dimly lit interior was paramount to the success of the project. Bespoke feature lighting along with
narrow beam reduced glare spotlights to add punch and provide a layered approach of interest and definition to the lighting.

In the function room we designed a wool carpet using a colour palette of beige, gold, fawn and black in a large pattern which gave the impression of a larger room but more importantly lightened it up considerably. A complementary bronze/gold contract wall covering was used to provide a warm backdrop. A new lighting scheme provide a layered approach along with framed mirrors were fitted on the walls with decorative glass light fittings to add a touch of sparkle.

Success

The new interior design and lighting scheme combined to make for a very warm and inviting reception and function room with many subtle layers of colour and light which comfortably caters for all events.
